You can cut your energy consumption and save a little cash by checking your home for places frosty air can seep in from outdoors. Light a stick of incense and carry it around the house. Check for leaks by holding it up to window frames, door sills, electrical boxes, plumbing fixtures, electrical outlets, ceiling fixtures, attic hatches and any other place air might come in. Watch the drifting smoke to find the leaks, which are easy to spot on a windy day. Then use a caulking gun to seal the gaps.
