“America needs to be patriotic about something besides the war,” said presidential candidate John Edwards, who launched his campaign in Chapel Hill’s Southern Village neighborhood. Thousands of supporters turned out for the Dec. 30 rally, where Edwards announced his presidential platform, including reducing the number of U.S. troops in Iraq, fighting poverty and establishing universal health care for all Americans.
