Some wholesome content to break up the less-than-so: Wake County Animal Center had a record-breaking year for adoptions and rescues in 2019, with an 11 percent increase in four-legged friends finding their forever homes.
Wake saw 4,288 pet adoptions last year–over 400 more than 2018–and 1,933 fosters.
Wake County Animal Center director Dr. Jennifer Frederico credits the generosity and sympathy of the county’s pet lovers for 2019’s exceptional numbers.
“The community really stepped up to support the shelter in 2019,” Frederico says. “We have so many generous and sympathetic animal lovers in Wake County, and we couldn’t do it without their help.”
More adoptions have allowed the shelter to avoid space-based euthanization for over three years. In addition, pet spaying and neutering also broke a record with 3,357 procedures, nearly 300 more than in 2018.
