Coffee aficionados and bagel addicts had a surprise run-in with Senator Elizabeth Warren this morning downtown.

The presidential hopeful made a pit stop in Raleigh last night to address over three thousand supporters at Broughton High School with a rousing speech touching on her progressive agenda–overhauling anti-corruption efforts on Wall Street and the White House while tackling bread-and-butter issues like student loan debt and health care.

The next morning, the staff at The Morning Times was surprised when the senator strolled through the front door with her husband, Bruce. We’re told she ordered grits (unconfirmed) and a coffee before sitting down at a table upstairs.

Her presence did not go unnoticed, according to Raleigh City Council member Nicole Stewart, who snapped a selfie with Warren.

“She was just very gracious and welcoming folks and taking pictures,” Stewart told the INDY.
