Good morning afternoon, readers.

INDY has you covered today with election results and insights from all over the Triangle.

The big news of the night: Democrats swept the Cary Town Council, incumbent mayors were ousted in four Wake County towns, and challengers defeated incumbents for two Durham City Council seats.

While all the races were officially nonpartisan, Democratic candidates scored big in Cary; the town council will be comprised fully of Democrats, including two new faces, when the new members are sworn in.

In Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Wake Forest, and Zebulon, sitting mayors lost their seats.

And in Durham, the city council will also have two new members, with potential implications for how the council approaches future development.
