Good morning, readers.

Durham’s primary results are in. 

As expected, incumbents advanced to the general election in each race. The big news of the night was challenger Shanetta Burris’s substantial lead over Ward 2 councilman Mark-Anthony Middleton, as well as a tight race between incumbent DeDreana Freeman and challenger Matt Kopac in Ward 2. 

INDY staffers were out and about last night getting reactions from candidates as the results came in, pinging from one election watch party to the next. I was holed up in a conference room digging through historic voting data and frantically clicking the “refresh” button on the state’s election results page. This morning, we’ve rolled all of that into one election recap for you.

And don’t forget, the Bull City is running it back in just eight short days when early voting begins for the general election.
