Good morning, readers.

Yesterday, Donald Trump took over Dorton Arena at Raleigh’s state fairgrounds for his last North Carolina rally before the election

The former president, at the conclusion of his third consecutive campaign for the White House, said a whole slew of wild, crazy, incendiary things. Nearly any line from his meandering 90 minute speech could stand on its own as a headline. But it’s unlikely that any of them would change your view of the man who has dominated the American psyche for nearly a decade.

And in many ways, the 78-year-old sounded a lot like the rest of us: ready for this all to be over.

“They’ll never have rallies like this,” Trump said, perhaps sadly, describing an imagined future candidate—Democrat or Republican—who succeeds him.

In other news, INDY’s Election Day live blog is officially up and running!

The live blog is a personal favorite of mine because it allows us to immediately drop scenes, interviews, and breaking news directly to our readers. We’ll let the AP handle the national races, but there are a whole bunch of local races that we’ll be watching tonight.

We’ll be at the polls today, at candidates’ watch parties this evening, and wherever else news is happening.

Check it out here, and be sure to bookmark the page for the Triangle’s race results once polls close at 7:30. If you haven’t voted yet, and need some help filling out your ballot, here’s a link to all of our election coverage, including candidate questionnaires, endorsements, and more.

And really, enjoy the warm weather and autumn leaves.

Have a good Tuesday.

Durham

Durham political parties are eyeing a growing group as the election nears: unaffiliated voters.

Durham County Commissioners officially discontinued the Bully City United violence interrupter program, effective November 1.

County leaders also installed former deputy county manager Claudia Hager to the permanent county manager seat following the mysterious departure of former manager Kimberly Sowell.

Wake

Wake County DA Lorrin Freeman is dropping charges against GOP political operative Sloan Rachmuth, who was arrested Sunday on cyberstalking charges after posting photos of a Harris Teeter employee wearing a keffiyeh on X without her consent and calling her a “Hamas sympathizer.” Freeman said the charges against Rachmuth, Michele Morrow’s former campaign manager, don’t rise to the level of cyberstalking. Orange

UNC police use-of-force data that the Daily Tar Heel obtained from a public record request show fewer people arrested since 2018 but an increase in use of force arrests, going from just under 6 percent in 2013 to almost 20 percent last year.

North Carolina

Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson crashed a candidate forum at Greensboro’s NC A&T.
