It’s Tuesday, September 24

Support the INDY Press Club.

Good morning, readers.

While most of the rest of the world celebrates LGBTQ Pride in June, Durham waits until September. We know that June here is too damn hot!

This Sunday, thousands are expected to march down Main and Ninth Street to celebrate. We’ll be some of them! Sign up here to join us in the parade, or tune in to INDYWeek.com at 11 a.m. for our livestream.

In the meantime, here are some stories from our most recent Pride issue, still on newsstands throughout the Triangle:

  • Portraits of Pride explores the stories and art of young queer people and their allies in the Triangle, told in their own voices.
  • The sprawling, inclusive Triangle Pride Band has grown from 30 members to 120 in less than a decade.
  • The Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice, located in the Durham queer icon’s childhood home, opened its doors to the public this month following almost 10 years of renovation.
  • The parade’s grand marshal will be Durham’s own Naomi Dix, whose sprawling new Club ERA features a “cloud chamber” and a “tree sanctuary,” all in a basement.

We hope you can join us this Sunday.

Have a good Tuesday and a happy Pride.

-Chase
