  • An “Endless” Shawarma Wrap in Durham
  • A Massive Data Facility in Rural Wake
  • A New Trail Network From Durham to Roxboro
  • A Kid-Led Push for Bike Trails in Apex
  • A Raleigh Dive Bar, Back in 1983

Good morning, readers.

I went to a Palestinian-owned market and grill for this week’s Lunch Money column and, upon walking inside, briefly forgot I was there to get lunch.

There was much to see—pomegranate molasses, five-pound bags of halal peach rings, 50 different spices in a densely packed corner—that I started grocery shopping before the smell of charred meat snapped me back to my mission.

Global Suq has been open since 2022 as a market on West Cornwallis Road in Durham, but just added a restaurant component last month. The menu keeps it simple: shawarma, burgers, and roasted chickens.

I got a $9 shawarma wrap filled with garlic sauce, shaved chicken, and Iranian-style pickles that made my gums tingle.

After eating, I tried to find the owners to ask about the spice blend on the chicken and accidentally interrogated regular customers before getting pranked by an actual co-owner who insisted I owed him last month’s paycheck.

Read the full column below. Have a good Tuesday.

A massive data storage facility would require annexation into the Town of Apex and a rezoning. Neighbors are wary of energy use, air pollution, and quality of life impacts, INDY’s Jane Porter reports.
