Support free and local independent journalism.

Good morning, readers.

No doubt many of you tuned in Saturday for Duke’s victory over UNC. But you may not know that off the court, the schools’ student publications, Duke’s Chronicle and UNC’s Daily Tar Heel, were engaged in a rivalry of their own. They held a fundraising contest, released a special edition paper featuring work from both publications, and went head-to-head in their own annual basketball game between staffers.

Ahead of this weekend’s big game, INDY writer Chase Pellegrini de Paur checked in with sports journalists at Duke and UNC. They discussed their teams’ respective seasons, campus game-day traditions, and what goes into covering one of the biggest rivalries in sports from its epicenter.

Regardless of which team you support, we can all get behind good local journalism. Read Chase’s conversation with the UNC and Duke sports editors, and have a good Monday.
