Good morning, readers.

On Friday, a group of more than 20 prominent Raleigh Democrats sent a letter to the leaders of the Wake County Democratic Party asking them not to make endorsements in this yearโ€™s Raleigh City Council races as several feature Democrats running against other Democratic candidates.

โ€œWhen [endorsements were] done in 2022, it created a lot of divisions within the Democratic Party that have taken two years to repair and arenโ€™t quite there yet,โ€ the letter states. โ€œDemocrats are divided over housing issues and the Israel/Palestine conflict and we think the voters should decide between Democratic candidates.โ€

The local chapter of the partyโ€™s Jewish caucus, too, is urging the larger party not to endorse for city council. Members are especially worried that the party will endorse incumbent city council members who pushed for the failed Gaza ceasefire resolution and whose social media posts have caused them concern.

But Kevyn Creech, the local party chair, says the party has been endorsing in local races, including most city council races, since 2011, following a Tea Party takeover of the Wake County Public Schools Board of Education in 2009.

โ€œIf we donโ€™t do what we need to do, not only is it impossible to keep our school board sane โ€ฆ but also it doesnโ€™t allow for people without huge connections and lots of dollars to have a shot at running,โ€ Creech says.

The county party hasnโ€™t completed the endorsement process yet, and no endorsements have been announced.

Have a good Monday.
