Good morning, readers.

In this fall’s Chapel Hill town council race, six candidates will vie for four at-large seats.

It’s one of the few competitive races Orange County voters will see in the upcoming election, other than the four candidates running for three seats on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education. Chapel Hill mayor Jess Anderson is unopposed in her reelection bid. Carrboro mayor Barbara Foushee is likely to prevail over an unknown challenger and there are no face-offs for the town council. Incumbents in Hillsborough are also unopposed.

INDY’s Chase Pellegrini de Paur writes that perhaps what’s most notable so far about the Chapel Hill town council race is the relatively small pool of contendersโ€”and apparent absence of advocacy groupย Chapel Hill for a Livable Town (CHALT), which backed nearly half of a crowded field in 2023.

Read more below about how the Chapel Hill town council race is shaping up, and have a good Wednesday.
