The City of Medicine has a new type of cancer support.

Dana Powers will never forget the day she received the phone call informing her of her shocking cancer diagnosis. She will also never forget the fear of learning she would have to undergo chemotherapy treatments. “Spending a year undergoing cancer treatment will bestow upon one a keen awareness of the emotional aspects of cancer treatment”, says Powers.

As a result of her journey through cancer treatment, Powers has opened In the Pink Wigs & Boutique, a shop catering to women experiencing medical related hair loss. In the Pink is a much needed resource for women in the local cancer community not only for wigs but also for the emotional support only a fellow cancer survivor can provide. “When a customer walks in the shop her first time, I know exactly what she’s feeling. And when she leaves the shop with a smile or a hug, I know that feeling too. I know she is leaving the shop with the realization that she can face the difficult days ahead with confidence and beauty. I understand how important it is for women who want to maintain a healthy appearance during cancer therapy and how uplifted their spirits are when they find the perfect look.” Powers adds, “Clients are comfortable asking me questions about my own experience and I am happy to respond because I understand why they are asking, I had those exact same questions when I was going through treatment.”

The boutique also offers, scarves, hats, skincare products for those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, breast surgery garments, cancer related books, jewelry, and clothing. In the Pink also hosts private wig and hat parties when the loved ones of someone who has been recently diagnosed would like to offer their support in an upbeat manner. And the shop is hosting casual support meetings to clients undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
