This fall, the Durham-grown Beats n Bars festival wants to be more than just a hip-hop festival: it wants to celebrate the many connected communities around hip-hop, from musicians to DJs, dancers, promoters, and more.
After last September’s festival, Beats n Bars has merged with the DURM Hip-Hop Summit for one cohesive showcase of the Bull City’s hip-hop up-and-comers. And now, Beats n Bars is trying to raise an additional $25,000 to beef up its programming. It’s got a Kickstarter campaign and a few events this month to make that happen.
There are two more pop-up parties this month to boost awareness, and, ideally, income for Beats n Bars. One is this Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at the Five Points plaza downtown. The other is Saturday, June 24, at King’s Sandwich Shop, near Motorco.
You can check out the Kickstarter campaign here, and watch a promo video for the festival below. Beats n Bars hits Durham September 22 and 23, with a lineup that includes Nick Grant, Nitty Scott, G Yamazawa, and Jooselord, to name but a few.
Clarification: This post originally implied that Beats n Bars wouldn’t happen without meeting its Kickstarter goal. That isn’t the case—the festival is happening regardless, but is aiming for additional funding to continue expanding its programming for 2017. The post has been edited to reflect that.
