In December, Moogfest made its first wave of programming announcements for this year’s festival, with a slate that included Chelsea Manning, Jenny Hval, Nadia Sirota, SOPHIE, and more. Today, they’ve released the second wave of programming, and it’s…unexpected.

One of the most notable pieces of this round is a four-hour Durational performance by Wes Borland, the guitarist for Limp Bizkit. It’s the first-ever performance of this kind from Borland. Who the hell knows what a nu-metal guitarist who was an essential presence on such poetic American classics as “Break Stuff” and “Nookie” is going to do for four whole hours, but hey, life’s a rich pageant.

Celebrated electronic duo Mouse on Mars, from Germany, has also joined the lineup, as well as the fantastic R&B artist Kelela and the pop-inclined Little Boots. Shabazz Palaces and KRS-One bring more hip-hop to the bill, while Author & Punisher and Yves Tumor offer experimental edges.

Synth pioneer Suzanne Ciani returns to the festival, too, and will perform a live score to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari with Layne. Ciani’s performance at last year’s Moogfest, which was projected in-the-round at The Armory, was fantastic, and that PA format is returning to The Armory for 2018. It should be interesting to see how it works with other performers this year.

Kristin Kontrol, who was announced in the first wave of programming, will no longer play the festival, unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict.
