Roads to nowhere

I spent part of the last two weeks strolling the alleys of Durham. During my journey, a woman offered me tomato plants, a man told me, in Spanish, about his daughters’ success in college and a restaurant worker politely inquired why I was standing behind the downtown eatery with a digital recorder.
