The runaway leaders of the International League’s South Division dropped a 5-4 road decision to the Pawtucket Red Sox, its second straight win giving the home team a split of the four-game series.

N.C. State alum Aaron Bates had a double and the game-winning single with two out in the ninth for Pawtucket, which got a homer and a single for two RBI from Josh Reddick.

Elliot Johnson homered and doubled to lead the Bulls.

Fernando Cabrera (1-4) was the winning pitcher, while R.J. Swindle (1-3) took the loss.

The Bulls will be off Wednesday before returning home Thursday night against the Indianapolis Indians.
