Tuesday was a rough night for the Triangle’s minor-league baseball teams, as both the Durham Bulls and Carolina Mudcats dropped one-run squeakers on the road.
Former Bull Jon Weber tripled and singled as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees nipped the Bulls 4-3, while Mike Stanton ripped a pair of solo homers as the Jacksonville Suns eked out a 5-4 win over the Mudcats.
Both teams’ road trips continue with games in the same cities today.
The Bulls will be back home June 8 against the Buffalo Bisons, while the Mudcats return home for a June 10 matchup with the Huntsville Stars.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 4, Bulls 3
Greg Golson and David Winfree each had two hits with an RBI as the Bombers evened the series at a win apiece.
Zach McAllister (5-2) was the winning pitcher while Jonathan Albaladejo picked up his 17th save. Aneury Rodriguez (2-3) took the loss.
Justin Ruggiano led the Bulls with a pair of hits and four stolen bases. Ryan Shealy added an RBI double.
Jacksonville 5, Mudcats 4
Stanton had his third multi-homer game against the Mudcats this season, helping his team to a 7-0 record at home against Carolina.
Kris Negron led Carolina with a two-run homer, while Mike Costanzo added two hits including a triple.
Tom Koehler (6-0) was the winner with Matt Peterson picked up his league-leading 11th save. Alexander Smit (1-4) took the loss.
