Lloyd’s Lounge has been a lot of things for a lot of time: Neighborhood bar, comedy club, undefined watering hole. Now this small white house on Rigsbee Avenue in the downtown Central Park neighborhood could transform into Tootie’s, a bar, restaurant and community meeting space.

This message appeared on a neighborhood listserv:

“Neighbors,
I’m writing to let you know about ‘Tootie’s Bar on Rigsbee’.
Tootie is the head of Build a Better Block (the last one was the Old Five
Points Neighborhood!), the grace behind Thanksgiving in Spring, and the
owner of several food trucks in Durham. She works tirelessly to bring good
food and community to our neck of the woods. Lloyd’s Lounge is giving
Tootie a lease to open up a good, family restaurant!
Take a moment to check it out on Indiegogo and also share it with your
friends. All the tools are there. Get perks, make a contribution, or simply
follow updates. If enough of us get behind it, we can make ‘Tootie’s Bar on
Rigsbee’ happen!

Tootie’s has launched an indiegogo campaign to fund the new venture.

Lloyd’s is directly across the street from the erstwhile Liberty Warehouse, which is being razed for new swanky apartments. If Tootie’s makes a go of it, the bar would add to the new businesses—two distilleries and the Blue Note Grill—in the popular neighborhood north of downtown.

Tootie’s better get on it: Real estate prices in this neighborhood are way up. We’ve heard—and yes, this is a rumor and has not been verified—that the asking price for a parking lot topped $1 million.
