When you think about Petey Pablo, the rapper behind “Freek-a-Leek” and the all-time North Carolina anthem “Raise Up,” the thought of “personally branded craft beer” probably isn’t one of your most immediate associations. But that might change this spring.

In a few weeks, Raleigh’s Neuse River Brewing Company is releasing Petey’s Pale Ale, a guava-infused beverage that the brewery promises will be light and refreshing. The beer’s label notes that it’s “light bodied, full of flavor with a hint of tropical fruit.” It also includes the phrase “Hate is ugly on everyone,” which, while not a Petey Pablo lyric, appears on some of the rapper’s Silverback Life merchandise.

The beer will be debuted on May 5 at Neuse River Brewing Company’s Cinco de Mayo party, which runs from 2-6 p.m. If you can’t make it to the party, you’ll be able to get the beer in the brewery’s taproom or in cans at local bottle shops.
