Lucettegrace has earned a reputation for its whimsical and meticulously crafted pastries, and while you can find macarons in every hue of the rainbow year-round, every year, pastry chef-owner Daniel Benjamin creates a special rainbow-inspired treat for Out! Raleigh. The annual event, taking place this Saturday, May 5, celebrates the LGBT community and raises funds to support the LGBT Center of Raleigh.

This year,

is bringing back the Gay Bar, which features its perennially popular candy bar cake (and one of Benjamin’s personal favorites), in which the almond brown butter cake, layered with crushed wafers and milk chocolate, hazelnut praline butter, and an intensely creamy chocolate hazelnut praline mousse, is sprayed with velvety dark chocolate and drizzled with rainbow-hued white chocolate made with colored cocoa butters. The Gay Bar will be for sale for $6.75 all weekend, and 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the LGBT Center of Raleigh.

“I grew up in a pretty small town in Indiana that wasn’t a very diverse town, and my travels for cooking and jobs have taken me to New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New Orleans,” Benjamin says. “And [I saw] how much all of the diverse communities made the cities more unique and lively. When I moved [to Raleigh], I saw that and hoped that we were going in that direction, so as soon as I was in business I wanted to support moving things in that direction.”
