Don’t know your Perwinkles from your Isa Browns? On Saturday, May 17, Urban Ministries of Wake County hosts a fundraiser, Tour D’Coop, a sojourn to chickens’ homes in Raleigh and yes, Cary, where hens are now allowed inside the town limits.
For those who prefer their pets to buzz rather than squawk, a Hive Hike, new this year, will be included for bee-keeping enthusiasts. The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are more activities; go to tourdcoop.com for the full schedule.
Admission is five items of nonperishable food and a cash donation. However, you must have a ticket. Order them at the Tour D’Coop website in advance or get them in person at Urban Ministries, 1390 Capital Blvd., and Whole Foods outlets: 3540 Wade Ave., 8710 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, and 102 New Waverly Place in Cary. One ticket gets an entire group into the tour.
Crepes and sorbet? Count me in. The owners of Radius Pizzeria & Pub in Hillsborough have opened Yum, a gelato, sorbet and crepe shop at 118 Churton St.
You can have your chocolate cake and drink bourbon, too at bittersweet, a new cocktail lounge to open soon at 16 E. Martin St., in Raleigh. In addition to liquor, beer and wine, Bittersweet will serve desserts (baked by Kim Hammer of bittycakes) and coffee, plus bar snacks. (919-977-3829, bittersweetraleigh.com.)
