Durham now has several brick-and-mortar spots for buying records—Carolina Soul, Hunky Dory, Schoolkids—but of all of these, the great Bull City Records has been around the longest. For more than a decade, the shop has served as an essential hub for Durham music-lovers.

Now, owner Chaz Martenstein has enlisted a bunch of buddies to help celebrate the success of his store, culminating in two nights of great shows in early August. On August 5, California’s Happy Diving and a handful of locals—Solar Halos, Bad Friends, Dirty Little Heaters, and a reunited Dry Heathens—take over The Pinhook.

Saturday, August 6, brings an even bigger shindig to Ponysaurus with more live music, food, and, of course, beer. Superchunk will headline. Pipe, a reunited Last Year’s Men, Daniel Bachman, and a collaborative trio set from Joe Westerlund, Brad Cook, and William Tyler will join. More performers will stay secret until the night of the show.

If that’s not enough, a series of in-store shows will go down at BCR in the week before the big Ponysaurus party, too, though those performers have yet to be announced. You can buy tickets to the Pinhook and Ponysaurus shows here, and keep an eye on the shop’s Twitter for more updates.
