Wow, just when you thought the last big festival was over and things had settled down a bit music-fest-wise, here comes another one, and it’s big. Come Out and Show Them is a large-scale anti-HB 2 benefit that will involve thirty-two musical acts at five venues in Raleigh on October 7 and 8.
It brings together an all-star slate of Triangle’s finest—Sylvan Esso, Mipso, Mount Moriah, Tift Merritt, Mac MacCaughan, Tres Chicas—uniting forces for a two-night event that aims to raise funds to not only defeat the state’s absurd bathroom bill but to take back the state itself. The proceeds will go to Democracy NC, Common Cause NC, Southerners on New Ground, and Tina and Grayson Haver Currin’s Come Out & Show Them nonprofit.
The forces behind this impressively packed bill, the Haver Currins, have honed their social justice skills in events such as Saturday Chores, the antics of the Air Horn Orchestra, and recent mural display at Hopscotch, and they’ve marshaled a deeply diverse roster talent for the event.
Night one features the groovy beats of Sylvan Esso, fresh from the headlining spot at Hopscotch, and the electro-hip-hop of Oak City Slums, while the next night features various packed bills featuring The Veldt, Brett Harris, and Al Riggs, plus Raleigh rapper King Mez. Demon Eye will be on hand to bring the requisite dose of heavy metal thunder. That’s a lot of reasons to come out (and show them).
