The Saturdays in Saxapahaw Music Series, which has been serving up the best of homegrown musical acts for more than a decade, just announced its 2017 lineup. Not surprisingly, it’s a solid slate of some of the finest talent in the area, with a concentration on roots, Americana, and traditional sounds. What’s new is that this year the announcement comes with a new crowdfunding campaign designed to shore up the growing series.

The series has always been free of charge, and it will remain so, but for the second year, audience donations aren’t enough to meet the myriad expenses involved in putting on a seventeen-week music festival. Between hiring staff to monitor the kids’ area to sound people and Porta Potties, the sundry costs have necessitated an effort that goes beyond the traditional passing of the hat.

And in the welcoming spirit of the venue, Saxapahaw kicks off its crowdfunding campaign—which has already surpassed its original $5,000 goal—with a video that stars the people who love the place and embody its spirit of inclusion. Soundtracked to a stomp beat and a tuneful whistled hook, people of all ages take part in the good vibes that communal movement fosters: dancing goofily or to loosely choreographed moves. It isn’t fancy—more like family.

The series runs from May through August, with shows starting at 6 p.m. except the kickoff, which starts at 4 p.m. Here is a complete listing of acts:
