Swaggering, doomy synth, swirling psychedelia, and a propulsive tempo form the foundation of No One Mind’s new single, “Covered in Roses,” which premieres today on the INDY website, ahead of the band’s forthcoming album, Secondary Gain, which releases June 9th on Third Uncle Records.

No One Mind released its debut, the self-titled No One Mind, in 2016. The band’s makeup has shifted since then—it was originally comprised of Missy Thangs, Ellis Anderson, and Noah Dehmer; three members of the since-dissolved Triangle band Toddlers—with Anderson joined by Sam Logan (bass, guitar, synth) and Reed Benjamin (drums, synth). Saman Khoujinian (keys, guitar) also contributed to the album.

The song was written following the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas, Anderson says, with the winding, unsettling technicolor garden video by Evan Crankshaw meant to represent “the passageway between fear of becoming a victim of such an event, and attempted comprehension of the would-be perpetrator.”
