When the Independent finishes investigating past eugenics experiments (“N.C. eugenics survivors seek justice,” cover story, March 24), it may wish to turn its light on another currently being conducted around the world.
In this one, rather than sterilizing the would-be parents of potential “defectives,” they eliminate the “defectives” directly. Although conditions such as Down syndrome are treated with this method, the most common “defect” treated is the Double X Syndrome (DXS).
To help you in your research, these days this is not called eugenics. It is called population control using elective abortion. And DXS babies, they are called girls.
