The up-and-coming Raleigh-based arts collective FeatherNetwork will mark the grand opening of their new studio/gallery space at 315 S. Bloodworth St. this Friday, June 7 from 5-11 p.m. Using the different parts of a dismantled old desk, 15 artists will each offer interpretive transformations of drawers, hinges and wood panels. Members’ studios will be open for those interested in what these artists do when they’re not tinkering with found objects. The brainchild of G. Alan Stewart (a recent recipient of an emerging artist award from Wake United Arts Council), FeatherNetwork sponsors wall mural projects and offers community arts classes in addition to holding exhibitions. The collective also donates a percentage of its earnings to local arts non-profits and causes such as the Wake County homeless shelter. Call 833-2969 for details. –Nathan Lupo
