The higher the hair, the closer to God,” says The “Lady” Bunny (pictured above), who was named the country’s number one drag queen by Genre magazine. This Lady is best know as the founder, producer and Mistress of Ceremonies of Wigstock, New York’s Labor Day dragfest since 1984. She’s a Southern girl through and through, raised in Chattanooga and first “up in drag” professionally in Atlanta’s fertile bar scene with friends Flloyd, Lahoma and RuPaul. Her first New York haunt was the seminal Pyramid Club, and she still prowls the night fearlessly, whether spinning lounge tracks in various nightspots, performing her own cabaret-style revue or just terrorizing and delighting the unwary night public. The Lady Bunny will be making a visit to our little burg this week, appearing at Raleigh’s Flex on July 11 and July 12. The second appearance is a Crape Myrtle fundraiser, so bring some extra cash.
