N.C. Senate President Phil Berger tried to cleverly brand President Obama as a hypocrite, regarding his stated opposition to HB 2.

“Tried” is the operative word. It was “clever,” only if you think a familiar right-wing zinger about Secret Service protection qualifies for that description.

Obama made his position clear at a joint press conference in London with British Prime minister David Cameron. The U.K recently issued a travel warning about anti-LGBT laws in Mississippi and North Carolina.

Addressing a reporter’s question about that, Obama said “the people of North Carolina and Mississippi are wonderful people. They are hospitable people. They are beautiful states. And you are welcome to come and enjoy yourselves.”

But.

“I also think the laws that were passed there are wrong,” he added, “and should be overturned.”
