It’s been 25 years since John Hope Franklin moved to Durham, and ever since, the eminent historian of black life and culture and American race relations has fueled intellectual discourse in Bull City. On Friday, Nov. 18, Professor Franklin will be one of the featured speakers at a symposium celebrating the 10th anniversary of the John Hope Franklin Collection of African & African American Documentation. The symposium, which will be held at the Gothic Reading Room of Perkins Library on West Campus, will feature a panel discussion on Durham’s growing African community at 1 p.m., a second panel discussion on black Americans in Africa at 2:45 p.m., a conversation on the African-American biography at 4:30 p.m., and remarks by John Hope Franklin on his new autobiography at 7 p.m. For more info, call 660-5822.
