… communicate well with all segments of the community? (or: only with the segments I prefer?)

… have successful experience as a school official? (or: skool bureaucrats need not apply?)

… serve as the face and voice of the school system? (or: be voiced by the Wake Republican Party?)

… and so on, through 20 questions about the qualities you’d like to see in new schools superintendent, including whether you’d be OK with an ex-military or bidness man/woman. (Hey, isn’t Gen. McChrystal, a.k.a. the Runaway General, available?)

It’s your call — the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce is taking a survey and you can chime in on it here.

(Update: Two public sessions have been scheduled as well for next Tuesday and Wednesday in the school board’s meeting room at 3600 Wake Forest Rd. Tuesday session is 6-8 pm; Wednesday is 10 am-12 noon. From the school board:

“We want to provide an opportunity for members of the general public to participate in a dialogue regarding the qualities and qualifications they believe are necessary to have in our next Superintendent,” said Debra Goldman, Chair of the Superintendent Selection Committee. “It’s important that we gather a variety of points of view as we develop the criteria we will use in selecting the next Superintendent of our school system,” she said.

The meetings will be facilitated by the executive search firm selected by the Wake County Board of Education to conduct the search for the new permanent Superintendent. Information collected in these sessions will be considered along with input from a variety of meetings being held with community stakeholder groups in developing the criteria for the nomination of a candidate who will be presented to the Board of Education.

“Stakeholder meetings” on the choice of a new super to replace the departed Del Burns start next week. The Chamber is a stakeholder, as defined by the Wake school board majority. The majority’s critics — the NAACP, the Great Schools in Wake coaltion — are not stakeholders, it seems.
