Peace CollegePoet laureate of North Carolina since early last year, Kathryn Stripling Byer’s fourth book of poems, Coming to Rest, was released earlier this year to high praise. KingsJazz often moves the soul most when it is fearless or even violent in its presentation. Triangle locals Crowmeat Bob, Mike Isenberg and Phil Martelli push that boundary with their trio The Nights (aptly named after crime novelist Jim Thompson’s starkest work).
