North Carolina Republicans love Donald Trump. They love him! And it’s not just the Donald saying it this time.
Rather, it’s respondents to the latest Public Policy Polling survey of 433 Republican primary voters on Jan. 18 and 19.

North Carolina was the first place polling ever found Donald Trump leading the Republican Presidential race, and he just keeps getting stronger. PPP’s newest poll finds him at 38% to 16% for Ted Cruz, 11% for Marco Rubio, 8% for Ben Carson, 6% each for Mike Huckabee and Jeb Bush, 4% for Chris Christie, 3% each for Carly Fiorina and Rand Paul, 2% for John Kasich, and 1% for Rick Santorum.
Trump’s lead over the rest of the right-wingin’, bitter-clingin’ pack rose five points in PPP results since last month. The award for Biggest Decline goes to Dr. Ben Carson, whose support dropped from 14 percent to 8 percent during that time.
Kind of hard to believe GOP voters would fall out of love with a guy who recently blamed the Flint, Michigan, water-poisoning crisis on federal government regulations, without even mentioning Gov. Rick Snyder, but there ya go.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton still leads big among NC Democrats:
On the Democratic side Hillary Clinton remains dominant with 59% t0 26% for Bernie Sanders, and 5% for Martin O’Malley.
And Republicans are favored to win the state, though not by much:
Marco Rubio does the best against Hillary Clinton, leading her by 5 at 47/42. Carson leads Clinton 47/44, Cruz leads her 46/43, and Bush and Trump each have 45/43 advantages. The GOP field all leads Bernie Sanders as well- it’s a 43/38 advantage for Cruz, 44/40 for Carson, 43/39 for Rubio, 45/43 for Trump, and 42/41 for Bush.
