Research Triangle Institute, a major contractor in Iraq, lost $185,000 of the U.S. government’s money and then claimed the loss as an expense which Uncle Sam covered, according to a report by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (PDF), recently reported in the Associated Press. The report is based on a forensic audit of the RTP nonprofit’s $598 million contracts with the U.S. government to train the Iraqis in building local government.
