Yes, rockers can dance too, they just don’t want to go to “dance clubs” to do it. In order to test that theory, Fin Fang Foom’s Mike Triplett, who also works at Go! Room 4 in Carrboro, is scheduling a series of dance nights that’ll pair a live band with a DJ. The first event happens this Friday and brings in outré threesome Rah Bras (pictured) from Richmond. “They’re crazy,” says Triplett. “They’re new wave, almost like The Faint but more post-punk. And Tim Ross is going to DJ, he spins full-on booty jams and good R&B–get people to mix it up a little bit.” Triplett says that a lot of live music clubs, especially in large cities, have dance nights. “Everyone likes to dance but there’s no places around here,” he says (referring to the alt-rock crowd). Triplett plans to start the party at 10 p.m. with some warm-up music, followed by Rah Bras and then “full-on dance music.” He’s even talking about decorating and adding some special lighting.
