Peggy Payne, the author of the novels Sister India (a New York Times Notable Book) and Revelation, is putting on a workshop called “Getting a Literary Agent” at her home near Jordan Lake on Friday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn how to choose which agents to approach and how to research them, how to describe your books in an attention-grabbing few words, the difference in presenting fiction and nonfiction, what to ask an agent and what to expect, and more. “Lunch, gossip and war stories will also be provided,” Payne says. She encourages you to bring a cover letter and the opening pages of your book or proposal (and the $90 fee for the workshop, of course). For details, call 362-8002 or e-mail her at Ppayne51@aol.com.
