WattstaxThe ArtsCenter—The ArtsCenter wraps up its Tuesday night big-screen music series with a showing of Wattstax, a film that chronicles the 1972 concert of the same name–and a whole lot more. A collaboration between Stax Records and the Watts Summer Festival, the concert featured the bulk of the Stax roster. But the movie transcends the music, an impressive feat when the likes of Isaac Hayes and the Staple Singers are onstage, thanks to street-level reporting and some brilliant bits from a young Richard Pryor.
