This Friday, internationally lauded teen climate activist Gretaย Thunberg will participate in a rallyย in Charlotte as part of her American tour.
Thunberg will be atย the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Centerย from noon to 2:00 p.m. Friday alongsideย local youth climate strikers andย activists Mary Ellis Stevens, Kate Harrison andย Lucia Paulsen, among others. The rally will take place rain or shine.ย
At age fifteen, Thunbergย began a global movement of students against climate change after holding aย “school strike for the climate,” sign outside of the Swedish Parliament as a call for stronger action against global warming. Her bold, fearless activism encouraged students to engage in similar protests across the globe under the name “Fridays for Future.”ย
This summer Greta (who refuses to travel by plane because of theย environmental impact) journeyedย across the Atlantic Ocean in a ship for two weeks before reaching New York City in August. Upon arrival, she scolded President Donald Trump, “to just to listen to the science, and he obviously doesn’t do that.”
At the U.N.’s Climate Action Summit in September, she told world leaders,ย โweโll be watching you.”ย
“Forย moreย thanย 30ย years,ย theย scienceย hasย beenย crystalย clear.ย Howย dareย youย continueย toย lookย away and come here saying that you’re doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight,” Greta said.ย

She’s Swedish.
