Day Drinker is a recurring feature in which INDY staffers graciously accept samples of new and seasonal offerings from local breweries and tell you what we think of them. If you’d like your beer or cider to be considered, email food editor Layla Khoury-Hanold at [email protected].

Cryo Opacity
The Glass Jug Beer Lab

This New England IPA, with its concentrated hops, was the biggest all-around hit with our staff. This is an IPA for people who don’t like IPAs. Its bitterness is mild, lurking tastefully behind clean, hazy, yeasty flavors of citrus and pine. We’d drink this all day.

Flavor Patterns
Bond Brothers Beer Company

Hey, who melted Flintstones children’s vitamins in this blonde sour ale? Oh wait, those are just really tart raspberries. None of us wanted to drink more than one of these, although one of us appreciated the berry blast. The Capri Sun of summer ales.

Disenchantment
Bond Brothers Beer Company

One of our editors thought this blended sour ale tasted like suntan lotion someone had soaked a moccasin in, but another detected pleasing notes of sarsaparilla, tobacco, and anise on the finish. A bold beer, not for sour novices.

Southern Basil
Fullsteam Brewery

Fullsteam suggests pairing this basil-infused farmhouse ale with pizza or caprese salad, which is spot-on because it tastes like Pompieri’s Margherita pie in a can.

Farm’s Edge: Fox Knob
Fullsteam Brewery

This fig saison is sweet but not syrupy, with rich coffee notes. It starts like a sour, coming on fruity and sharp, and ends like a porter, not lingering on the palate. A summery treat that, at 7 percent ABV, won’t weigh you down in the heat.
