First, rosé earned its place in mainstream drinking with monikers like “summer water.” Then came #roséallday and #yeswayrosé. Then came brosé, for dudes who embrace drinking pink, so naturally it was only a matter of time before frosé—frozen rosé—became a thing, too.

At Carrboro’s Acme Food & Beverage Co., frosé debuted as rosé snow cones at its first Rosé Soirée in April. Frosé will make its return as rosé and blueberry popsicles, along with rosé sangria and a bevy of blush-hued beauties, on June 28, the second soirée of the three-part summer series that chef Kevin Callaghan and his staff organized to celebrate and share their love of the pink drink.

“Rosé is wine that you drink with friends,” Callaghan says. “My belief is that food and wine should be inclusive—should bring people of all sorts together—and that too often both food and wine come across as incredibly exclusive. Are you in the club? How many issues of Lucky Peach do you own? That sort of thing. And rosé really rips up that scorecard. It asks instead, ‘Are you having fun yet?’”

If Instagram is any indication, attendees were having all sorts of fun at Acme’s last soirée. Callaghan promises that the carefree party-on-the-patio spirit will be back, but this go-round, he’ll also indulge his inner wine geek by hosting an informal thirty-minute tasting and workshop at the start of the evening. This will give attendees a chance to sample different varieties and ask questions to learn more about how rosé is made. Then they’ll flip into full-on party mode with free-flowing wine served alongside bites like elotés locos, or Mexican-style grilled corn on the cob, and fish and shrimp tacos.

Tickets are $25 and go on sale Friday, June 8 at 9:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the restaurant at 919-929-2263. The event will be held at Acme Food & Beverage Co. on June 28 from 6:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.; in case of rain, Acme will cancel in advance and announce a rain check. This event tends to fill up quickly; if you miss this one, there’ll be one more chance to throw down in mid-August.
