Twin House Music owner Brian McGee soft-opened his new Carrboro store on Septemberย 1, working the sales floor on his own while taking in the steady guitar repair work heโd established in that space when it was the Music Loft, which closed in December of 2017. The new store offers essential accessories, plus effects pedals, drum stuff, ukuleles and guitar consignments
Last week, he brought in new employee Nora Rogers, whoโs often station at the storeโs well-stocked and expanding guitar pedal case. (Local music fans will recognize Rogers as a singer, guitarist, and restless tone seeker in Solar Halosย and Object Hours.)
Guitar repair customer Dan McGee of Spider Bags even helped Brian put fresh paint on the walls. Heโll perform a solo in-storeย set of Spider Bags songs on Saturday, October 13 for Twin Houseโs official grand opening bash, along with fellow customer Rachel Hirsh, whoโll perform songs from her Bruxesย catalog.
The scheduled entertainment also includes another special, secretย guest โ โwhose name I canโt say,โ according to McGee.
The store will raffle off some gear, including an Earthquaker Aqueduct pitch vibrato pedal, a Dunlop volume pedal and a Kohala Ukelele Player Pack.
โThe one that seems to be exciting people is the Hohner Ozzy Osbourne Signature Harmonica,โ says McGee. โIt comes in a โcoffinโ case, with a specific Ozzy logo.โ
An afternoon open-house tour of the adjacent Nightsound Studios will feature beer supplied by Carrboroโs Steel String Brewery. The fun starts at 10 a.m. with free coffee and donuts, and ends whenever the Nightsounds karaoke afterparty at 9 winds down.
