Maybe every era gets the John Cusack it deserves. Depending on when you grew up, you might associate the perennial everyman with any number of lovable losers: underachiever Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything โ€ฆ, disillusioned hit man Martin Blank in Grosse Pointe Blank, unemployed puppeteer Craig Schwartz in Being John Malkovich, or downtrodden Beach Boy Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy.

But for me, Cusack will always be synonymous with Rob Gordon, the snobbish record-store owner he played in High Fidelity, the 2000 film that captured what pre-internet record stores were like with a sense of preemptive nostalgia.

Now that the film is truly a time capsule of another era, itโ€™s worth seeing again at this Duke Energy Center screening, mainly becauseย Cusack himself will be in attendanceย for a Q and A afterward.ย

The event, courtesy of Mills Entertainment’s The Backlot Project,ย takes place on Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m. atย www.dukeenergycenterraleigh.com, 800-745-3000, or the Duke Energy Center box office. A limited number of VIP tickets include a post-show photo op with Cusack.
