The Durham Police Department identified the man fatally shot by officers over the weekend as thirty-year-old Ondrae Levado Hutchinson.

The agency also released the names of the four patrol officers that encountered Hutchinson during a domestic call – officers R.E. Jimenez, J.W. Lanier, E.I. Masnik and B.L. Mouzon.

According to the department, Jimenez joined the DPD in February 2015, Lanier in June 2018, Masnik in June 2017, and Mouzon in July 2018. All four were put on paid administrative leave following the shooting, per protocol.

The shooting occurred around five a.m. Saturday on Bevel Court, when officers responded to a “domestic incident between a man and a woman who were involved in a physical altercation.”

“Once the officers arrived they encountered a thirty-year-old man who was uncooperative and combative, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle shots were fired by an officer and the man sustained life-threatening injuries,” the department said in a news release. Hutchinson was taken to a hospital and died shortly after.

The DPD is compiling a five-day report on the incident, and the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
