The housing market may be circling the drain, but green abodes are piquing homebuyers’ interests. Whether it’s solar hot water, xeriscaping or rainwater catchment systems, you can outfit or retrofit your new or existing home with green technologies, while collecting tax credits.

The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association is sponsoring its fall solar and green home tours over the next two weekends. The tours are slated for Oct. 6 in Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Chatham County, and Oct. 13 in Durham and Hillsborough; all run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission ranges from $5-$15. You can register the day of the event or online: For the Oct. 6 tours, go to energync.org/events. Clean Energy Durham is helping coordinate the Oct. 13 event; register at www.durhamsolartour.com.
