It’s not easy but certainly possible to talk about how a year sounded in any given area: Listen to every record, single and Soundcloud link offered by a band within your perimeter. Revisit club schedules and think about which bands played at Local 506 or which acts found themselves at Kings. Check the local radio stations for taped segments with area acts.
But documenting how any music scene lookedespecially one as perpetually rich, active and diverse as the one found in the region we call homeis another task entirely. The story happens in an instant and disappears forever, unless someone is on hand, willing and able to capture at least part of the essence. Here, INDY Week‘s staff photographers, Jeremy M.
