Welcome to the weekend, readers.
Yesterday afternoon, long-time N.C. State Chancellor Randy Woodson announced he is retiring after 14 years leading the Pack.
During his tenure overseeing the UNC System’s largest student population at 38,000, Woodson ushered in significant increases in the N.C. State’s academic success and fundraising efforts, including improving graduation rates, hiring world-class professors, and attracting millions in research dollars.
Fourteen years is an abnormally long tenure for a chancellor; three times the national average.
According to colleagues and others connected to the university, Woodson was able to maintain a positive rapport with folks at his school and the increasingly polarized UNC system leadership by focusing on student success and bolstering the university’s funding without engaging in partisan politics.
To learn more about Woodson’s long run , be sure to read this detailed story from The Assembly.
Woodson will stay on during the process to find his successor. His term officially ends in June, 2025.
Have a good weekend.
