Four local restaurants have made this year’s Bon Appètit “Best” lists and we couldn’t be prouder. Catch up on the details with our past INDY coverage.
“The Best New Bakeries in America 2016″
Earlier this year, we declared Raleigh’s Boulted Bread the “best place to get excited about bread” if merely for its bialy (which is no doubt inspired by co-owner Fulton Forde’s stint at Asheville’s best bialy peddler, Farm and Sparrow). BA highlights its in-house-milled flour and croissants. In 2014, INDY dug deep into Boulted Bread’s slow rise to become a favorite neighborhood bakery, for both residents and restaurants. “The 50 Best New Restaurants in America 2016”
The expanse of chef Ashley Christensen’s culinary accolades can only be matched by the behemoth wood-fire grill in her newest restaurant, Death & Taxes. In BA’s list, food started by that fire is the “real celebration.” Read our 2015 review, which details plenty more.
With its claim to become Durham’s living room before it opened, The Durham has proven itself as a chic community space of sorts, hosting Moogfest disco brunches, oyster shucking, live jazz, and Duke mixers. BA highlights chef Andrea Reusing’s focus on Americana cuisine. In 2015, INDY’s review delved deeper into the whimsical and familiar execution of that idea. Read it here. And don’t forget our summer addiction: The Durham’s coffee soda.
“The 3 Best New Pizza Joints in America”
As if there weren’t enough lists, it seems that BA couldn’t help but (justifiably) glorify pizza in a category all its own. Carrboro darling Pizzeria Mercato made the cut. Read our review on Gabe Barker’s long-awaited pizza: “Pie and Mighty.”
