On its Facebook page this morning, Monuts Donuts in Durham announced a special that will raise money for earthquake relief in Mexico. On Sept. 19 the strongest earthquake of the century hit Mexico City and surrounding areas, killing hundreds of people, destroying thousands of homes, and toppling many buildings in the capital city.
Monuts announced a seven-dollar empanada deal, explaining that proceeds will benefit staff members’ families and friends. They wrote the following message:
Like many restaurants here in town, we have a good number of staff members who have friends, family and loved ones affected by the Mexico City Earthquake— some who lost their homes and their belongings. To help raise money for these families, Monuts will be donating all money raised from our specials this week and next along with a dollar for dollar match. First special up is Alejandra’s empanadas, served with salsa aji dulce. Alejandra said it’s not authentic mexican, but it is one of her family’s favorites. So, come dine with us! 3 empanadas for $7
