Lydia Loveless and company flew full tilt into a 90-minute set late last month at Durham’s Motorco. For her first—and long overdue—appearance in the Triangle, Loveless brought her brand of fiery alt-country, which has elevated the Columbus, Ohio, native to prominence in a crowded Americana scene.
Touring on her latest album from Bloodshot Records, Somewhere Else, Loveless captivated a large crowd with songs that ranged from the serious-and-pensive “Everything’s Gone” to the fun “Head.” Before the show began, the unassuming Loveless moved in and out of the crowd with her jacket collar up and ski cap pulled low. On stage, her demeanor varied, but the consistency of her powerful voice, depth of her songs and the strength of the band made for an unforgettable performance.
